Carmen studied Music at Red Deer College (now Red Deer Polytechnic), majoring in Clarinet and participated in various bands, ensembles, and choirs. She studied Art at Alberta College of Art and Design (now Alberta University of the Arts) in Calgary. Her focus was on drawing and printmaking with experimentation in several mediums including painting, jewelry & metal working, glass blowing, sculpture, and ceramics. In 2015, Carmen became a certified Alberta teacher with her degree in Education from the University of Alberta. Recently, she supplemented her education with local classes in watercolours and pottery, and in 2022 became certified with Level 1 Kodály musicianship through the University of Alberta. She lives on her husband’s “100 year family farm” south of Sylvan Lake with their son, dog, and six cats.

Our Music program is Kodály based and this means an emphasis on whole body teaching including singing, games, dancing, stories, learning to read notation, music history, and playing a variety of instruments including body percussion, drums, sticks, shakers, boomwhackers, etc. All materials will be supplied.
Our Art program is a series of experiments and discoveries using the Elements of Art and Principles of Design, coupled with references, connections, and inspiration from artists and their artworks of the past and present. All materials will be supplied including paper, paints, pastels, clay, etc.Classes can be either parented or unparented - it is entirely your choice.
